Last Wednesday, Sidmouth ladies held their annual Invitation Day, writes Maria Clapp.

This is always a special day in the ladies’ calendar. Each lady member invites a guest for the event.

The format for the day was a four ball better ball. Some great scores were achieved.

The winners were Penny Lyne and her guest, Barbara Cummins from Axe Cliff, with a superb 45 points!

In second place was Marie Timms and Brenda Somerfield from East Devon. In third place was Maria Clapp and Fran Shrubsole with 42 points.

Fran is a member of Downes Crediton. Maria and Fran took third place on count back from Gerri Whitrow and Ying Wong, who also had 42 points.

Ying is also a member of Downes Crediton. A lot of these friendships have come about through our Presidents and Sheelagh Creasy matches over the years.

There were two chances for nearest the pins. They were on the fourth and 11th holes. Gill Whitehead won the fourth and our lady captain Sheila Faulkner won the 11th. There was also a pot for the twos.

Three Sidmouth ladies shared this prize, receiving eight golf balls each.

A bottle draw was held, and prize giving took place afterwards in the clubhouse.

This gives everybody a chance to meet other lady members from other clubs.

Once again, thank goodness, the weather was kind and a great day was had by everyone.
