Sidmouth’s B team were expecting a hard match against their old rivals from East Devon and they were not disappointed, writes George Carr.

Captain Colin Macklin and his partner Bob Welsman, teeing off at 1pm on a busy day for the course, provided the first victory of match by the slimmest of margins winning one up on the 18th.

East Devon’s David Priestner’s hole-in-one on the 12th proved too much for the home pairing of John Welch and Keith Newton, the visitors winning three-and-two.

John Barnard and Chris Grubb, Steve Milton and Simon Knowles and Messrs Skelly and Freer were all successful, leaving only Lee Whenham and Don Cooper to fall by the wayside going down to a four-and-two reversal.

Roger Freer was nearest the pin on the second (his prize is not recorded) and so the final score of four matches to two probably left the visitors quietly satisfied and looking forward to the return match at Budleigh Salterton later in the summer when bragging rights will be decided!
