After their summer break Sidmouth Badminton Club return to action on Wednesday, September 9 to start what will undoubtedly be a historic year for the club.

Formed in the early 1950s when their home venue was the old Drill Hall on Sidmouth Sea Front, they remained there until the early 1980s before moving to their present base, Sidmouth Sports Centre.

Records show that the club played a few friendly matches as early as 1953 before joining the Exeter and District Badminton League in 1955.

That all means that the coming season will be the clubs 60th in the league, quite probably making them one of the longest serving clubs in the league.

The club is very keen to attract new members and are able to offer an excellent mix of both social and competitive badminton.

So, if you have recently moved into the area why not get along and see what is on offer.

There may be folk reading this article that play badminton but are not affiliated to any particular club and they too are being invited to get along to the club.

One thing is very clear and that is that new comers are always made very welcome at Sidmouth Badminton Club, whatever the standard of player.

From September 9, the club will be running Taster Sessions alongside the regular club night action and this will continue throughout the month.

Club nights are from 8pm until 10pm each Wednesday evening from September right through to April, 2016.

As well as social badminton the club also run men’s, ladies and mixed league teams all of which play in the Exeter and District Badminton League.

These teams play at various levels and offer a wide range of competitive badminton.

The Club will be hoping to build on their success of last season when their men’s and mixed A teams both won their respective divisions to gain promotion.

By joining Sidmouth Badminton Club you automatically become affiliated to Badminton England and are able to enjoy all the associated benefits that this

can bring.

During the season the club will be holding other social events one of which will hopefully be an event to celebrate the Club’s 60 year membership of the

Exeter and District League when it is hoped that the present members will be joined by past members in a relaxed social atmosphere away

from the badminton court.
