Sidmouth Ladies played their first match in the Lane Trophy last Wednesday, write Sue and Peter Mison.

It proved to be a winning start for the team as they were victorious on both home rinks and also on one of the away rinks!

The nine shot overall, win saw Sidmouth bank eight of the ten points on offer.

This was a very good start to the Lane bid this season.

It was good to see three ladies making their debut in the competition; Jenny Crow, Freda Humphreys and Doreen Pound, all three acquitted themselves well.

It was also the first match of the season in the Foxlands Trophy that the Sidmouth ladies played on Thursday when the opposition were North Devon.

Both home rinks did well to win, but the away rinks lost by narrow margins giving North Devon a win overall by five shots with Sidmouth having to settle for four points.

On Saturday Sidmouth Men played their first game in the Interclub League against local opponents Honiton on a two rink at home, two rink away basis.

It proved to be a difficult game for Sidmouth with Honiton in good form winning on all four rinks. Better luck next time, chaps!

Also on Saturday, the Sidmouth Ladies played their first round of the Yetton Trophy against Madeira on a two rink at home, two rink away basis.

Having lost to Sidmouth in the first round of the Mason Trophy the opposition were clearly in no mood to see that outcome repeated they were victorious on both away rinks and only losing by one shot in the game at Exmouth so Madeira go through to the next round, but Sidmouth get a second chance in the Yetton Plate in which they will now play Budleigh Salterton.
