SIDMOUTH are to make their third Tony Pryce Sports Devon Senior Cup appearance in four years following a 77-run defeat of Heathcoat.

In their third away tie of the 2011 competition, Sidmouth posted 202-5 in the semi final at Heathcoat’s ground at Knightshayes and then bowled their hosts out for 125, writes John Goodwin.

In the final they will meet Plymouth, conquerors of Plympton. The match, a repeat of the 2009 final, is to be played at Bovey Tracey on Sunday, September 4.

Luke Bess, with an unbeaten 64 featuring seven fours and one six, gave the Sidmouth innings the impetus it needed and was joined for an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 55 by Ben Gledhill, who hit 26 in 19 balls with two fours and a six.

Earlier Anthony Griffiths had made 42, Josh Bess 27 and Neil Hancock 20. There was a wobble at 147 with five of the 40 overs to go when Griffiths and Will Gater fell in the space of three balls to Liam Lewis. He finished as Heathcoat’s best bowler with 3-31 in eight overs.

At 80-2 in the 17th over, Heathcoat posed a threat but two wickets for Hancock saw them at 83-4 three overs later.

Cooke made it 89-5 in his first over by inducing the first of four stumpings for Ben Gledhill.

Heathcoat regrouped but fell off the required run rate and with 10 overs to go had reached 119-5. The innings than collapsed to 125 all out in 34 overs as spinners Cooke, Dalton and Patidar all benefited from Gledhill’s glove work.

Cooke finished with 3-21 in seven overs, Dalton 2-23 in eight and Patidar 1-1 in the five balls of his only over.

Hancock bowled five overs for 2-19 and the other wicket-takers in four-over spells were Gater and Will Murray
