Sidmouth bowling club were invited by the county president to send a rink to Moonfleet bowling club in Weymouth to play for Devon against Dorset, writes John Mason.
Three existing county badged players, Tony Brown, Mike Reader and John Mason were selected together with Brian Smith whose third and qualifying game it would be.
On the day the Sidmouth rink all played well winning comfortably by 33-12.
Not only did Devon win the match, but the Sidmouth quartet were the top rink.
An enjoyable dinner followed after which Brian Smith was awarded his county badge.
