The week saw a similar pattern to recent weeks, with a disappointing league match contrasting with success in the friendly fixture, writes David Fairclough.

The league fixture was a County Trophy Over 60’s against Exonia, comprising two rinks at home and two in Exeter. Exonia won on three of the four rinks but Sidmouth were successful in drawing one rink, 20-20, thereby earning a single point. Congratulations to that rink, skipped by Mike Reader, supported by Ray Tallent, Ed Backhouse and Bert Hague.

On Sunday (January 11), we received three mixed rinks from the Feniton Club for a friendly fixture. Sidmouth and the visitors won one rink each with one drawn, but the margin of the winning rinks was such, 33-11, that the match was comfortably won by a shot score of 68-47. Sidmouth’s winning rink was skipped by Mike Reader, supported by Pat Hague, Wilf Radburn and Jenny Fricker.

The mixed friendly matches at home are proving one of Sidmouth Club’s strengths. Of nine such games so far this season, Sidmouth have won eight, with an aggregate shot score of 565-414.
