Wednesday and Friday saw the conclusion of Sidmouth's Indoor season with final s day competitions.

Wednesday and Friday saw the conclusion of our Indoor season with final's day competitions which were very competitive and watched by a good number of members in support of their favourites. Match results as follows:Ladies' singles winner: Beryl Sparkes 21-14. Runner up: Marie WallBeryl played a superb singles match levelling at one all on the second end and never looking back to win by 21-14 with a concession on the 19th end. Very well done Beryl! I have not heard, at the time of going to press, if Beryl will contest the Champion of Champions next year, but I am sure there will be a lot of encouragement to do so for one of the club's senior and most respected members.Men's singles winner: John Wall 21-8. Runner-up: Robert Cartledge. This was a real seesaw match with John opening a three-shot lead by the third end to go three down at the eighth, and ahead again at the 10th. Robert responded to go six up at the 16th end and was holding a one shot lead on the 20th end. John fought back to win. Well done and good luck to John next year in the Champion of Champions national competition.Turner Cup winner: John Mason 21-6.Runner-up: Bob Seldon.John established an early 4-1 lead at the fifth which Bob managed to bring back to level at the seventh. From there on John built up a steady lead and powered ahead with a 3, 2, 4, to lead 17-4 at the 14th and never looked back after that.Mixed Pairs winners: Marie Wall and Ron Cook 25-11.Runners-up: Jean Brimson and Stuart Hamer.A fairly quiet opening from both sides until Marie and Ron built up a good lead of 14-4 at the 10th end only to then take time out for a mid life crisis by losing seven shots on the next three ends. A rude awakening was followed by wins on six consecutive ends to run out the winners at the 20th end.Ladies' pairs winners: Marie Wall and Eileen Stribling 25-7.Runners-up: Jenny Fricker and Beryl Sparkes.Marie and Jenny took an early lead with two crushing fours on the fifth and sixth ends followed by a two on the seventh to lie 13-3. Jenny and Beryl hung in there but their opponents proved too strong on the day. Men's pairs winners: Tony Brown and John Mason 17-8Runners-up: Ken Bridgman and Ron Cook. This was a tough, low-scoring game with single shots winning the majority of ends.Joan Jeffrey Cup winners: Jill Lewis, Marion Watson, Chris Hamer and Dreda Taylor ( skip) 20-19.Runners-up: Freda Humphreys, Pat Pritchard, Jean Green and Jill Bishop (skip). This was a really hard-fought match over 18 ends with little quarter given. Dreda's team established a 15-7 lead at the 10th and increased that to 20-11 after the 15th. Jill's team then struck back hard with a two and a five leaving them needing two shots on the 18th to force an extra end. With a great effort they were holding one but just missed the extra shot needed.Well done to all the players for providing a super finals week. That concludes my reports for this season. I will be back in September. Enjoy your bowling outdoors, I know I will!
