Sidmouth bowler Jane Painter was tasked with a match at Honiton in the next round of the County two-wood singles competition, writes Carol Smith.

In the two-wood you really need to be focused, as, in this format, you have only 21 ends to play and not 21 shots as in the four-wood singles.

Which means if your opponent is way ahead of you, then you stand little chance of catching up as you run out of ends!

Jane won two games convincingly, but the third was a bit tougher as she was playing a Seaton lady that had already got through to the last 16 of the four-wood singles. Nevertheless, being one shot down going into the last end, she managed to bag two shots, and so won – phew! Well done, Jane and good luck in the next round.

That latest success ought to have got Jane through to the last 16 of Section Three A, but she has now been informed that she still has a qualifying preliminary round match to play against Liz Smeardon from Crediton!
