A team of Sidmouth Bowls ladies won the first round of the Major 4s County Competition, away to a formidable Seaton team. Well done to the team of Jean Brimson, Karen Hollingdale, Jane Painter and skip Jill Bishop, winning 20 -5.
Sadly, the next round at Ottery St. Mary wasn't so good, as they lost 5 -17 against a very good team. All players found the rink just a ‘tad tricky’, the Ottery ladies managed it just that bit better.
Mick Cox and David Timms won their first round of section 3s Unbadged County Pairs Competition, away to a Feniton duo. The final score was 26 -16 to the Sidmouth boys.
Karen Hollingdale and Allan Davis played the first round of Section 3's County Mixed Pairs Competition, away at Feniton in pouring rain.
At the finish the final score was level, so an extra end was necessary to decide the winner. Great news, Allan and Karen won and now proceed to the next round.
Last Sunday, two Sidmouth ladies played the County 4 wood singles. Jane Painter played at Feniton and won her first round 21 -12 against Chris Barradell from Seaton. She then went on to play against Jan Roberts from Exmouth and lost by three shots 18 -21.
Well done to Jane as she did very well against two formidable singles players. Jane then went on to win the Section 3B final with a walkover.
Chrissie had two great wins at Seaton, the first against Lin Hambly from Exmouth 21 -9 and then against Tracy Lambert from Honiton 21-12 . This then put Chrissie in the Section 3A final, which sadly she lost against Gail Hawke from Ottery St. Mary.
Sidmouth men played the Foxlands County Competition, a knockout competition of two rinks, usually played one home and one away and the combined score decides who proceeds to the next round.
As we are having a ‘little trouble’ with home greens at the moment, it was decided to play both rinks away at Honiton. After a hard-fought game against some tough opposition, we lost on both rinks.
In the Nens County Unbadged Triples, Allan Davis , Mick Cox and David Timms lost to a Seaton team. This game is played over 18 ends and after 9 ends all was level, but the Sidmouth team then sadly dropped back to lose 13 -22.
