If selected next season, just hope that I am in the away side!In the over-60s league, Sidmouth C against Starcross B was a bridge too far and Sid lost on one rink and drew on the other: R Tallent, L Tobias, E Mills 13-26; R Graham, B Hague, R Knights 19-19.Sidmouth A against Culm Vale A saw an overall win by 42 shots to 19: K Bridgman, A Brown, P Wilson 26-6; J Mason, N Brimson, B Seldon 16-13. Sidmouth B v Crediton A lost on both rinks 26-40: B Smith, B Daniels, J White 13-21, B Mortimer, P Clements, B Boddy 13-19.The competitions are well underway now and with one or two interesting results. In the men's competition there was, unusually, a result completely reversed from one week to the next, even down to the score being reversed. Who mentioned the fact that it is all down to consistency?For those who look forward to the Bonanza on the Bank Holiday Monday, when this year the Sidmouth Voluntary Services are to be the charity to benefit, club members would like to thank Bert Hague and his good lady who have worked really hard in providing many extra prizes. There is so much to sell we could do with an extra day, however, we shall just have to work that little bit harder. There is a bottle of whisky from the House of Commons signed by David Cameron that has a bid of around �80. If you too would like to bid then give Bert a ring on (01395) 514343.RISING temperatures caused the ladies to leave off their gilets, fleeces and cardigans this week, not to mention raincoats, writes Jill Lewis! The sun shone very brightly and sun hats, sun glasses and sun shades were the order of the week! Great weather for bowlers and some great results for the Sidmouth ladies.Sidmouth's Marie Wall has won yet another round of the Devon County over-55 singles competition and now goes forward to playing an opponent from Chardstock at Seaton Bowling Club. Congratulations, Marie, and your club colleagues all look forward to hearing the result of this match. Sidmouth sent two teams of triples to play at Ladies' over-50 league matches at Heavitree but, despite some very good play, Sidmouth lost. Anne Tredget, Christa Turner, and Sheila Burnand had a close game, just losing by one shot on the very last bowl of the match.Friendly Matches: Sidmouth warmly welcomed Swansea and Bristol Tourists and the ladies played two rinks with Sidmouth winning on both: Paddy Wrench, Anne Tredget, Jenny Fricker, Dreda Taylor 27-13; Sue Mison, Marianne Borst, Sheila Burnand, Anne Capon 22-18.In-House Competitions: the Ladies Championship and Ladies 2 Wood got underway this week with some extremely close games and excellent play. Well done to all those who entered, and many thanks also to markers, umpires and the gentlemen who set up the equipment. The next rounds will take place in July, and we are all looking forward to the in-house finals for all the competitions at the beginning of September.The ladies thoroughly enjoyed their Umbrella competition this week after the previous match had to be abandoned due to rain.Sidmouth Ladies are now looking forward to welcoming the DCLBA Section Finals at the bowling club on Saturday, July 4, and hope that many will go along to enjoy what should be a great day.
