Well - who turned the taps on? It’s day three of the Sidmouth tour and following a morning of free time, the bowlers set off for a good game of bowls at nearby Poole Park, writes Susie Bonnell.
Well, what a beautiful setting - for ducks! The heavens opened and, within 10 minutes of arriving, the rinks were flooded.
Given the forecast and waterlogged greens, the game was abandoned.
Sidmouth bowlers enjoyed a cup of tea and chat with the Poole Park players - then gave a spontaneous rendition of their club ‘anthem’ a jolly ditty written some years ago by Sidmouth’s stalwart lady members - Beryl Sparks and Dreda Taylor - sang to the tune of ‘John Brown’s Body’ - despite a lack of rehearsal, it was a terrific performance and the Poole Park members are going to adapt it for their club.
Then it was back to the hotel - for games of cards for some, table tennis for others and a nice snooze for the rest!
