Captain's Day saw one of the biggest entries in club history as 162 players took to the course. Club captain, Paddy Tallon, provided a wonderful selection of prizes, funded from his own pocket with the help of sponsors. Top overall prize went to Spencer Jarrett with 43 points beating Jim Shearer on a countback. Spencer thanked Paddy and all the club staff for a tremendous day.The captain also thanked his sponsors - Fields, Delderfields, Potburys, Fords, Beauty Within, Ping, PakMail (USA) and lastminuteteetimes.co.uk.He gave thanks to all who had helped him to prepare the day - Neil Anthony, Jonathan Lee, Neil Faulkner, David Pepperell and John Dunn. He thanked the greens, bar and catering Staff for their efforts, Chris, Kevin and Stuart in the Pro Shop and, particularly, Nick Bater, 'Arry and the Pro for running the day so smoothly. For those members who have not put their name down for Pro's Day, please do, as I need to make sure I get a better turnout than Paddy !Kit Denning took full advantage of the fine weather to shoot a very good 41 points as he took top position in the Stableford, beating the in form Jack Hodge on the back nine. The round of the day could have belonged to Marc Shoobridge. Marc started his round with four gross birdies to be -4 after 4, however, his round suffered later on and the potential of a course record was gone. The Seniors played two matches during the week. On Monday, a team was at Dawlish playing on the flat, sandy fairways of Warren Golf Club. Such conditions require different techniques to those used at Sidmouth and only two pairs were able to master these well enough to win their matches. Mick Munro and David Lane dove-tailed well and used the knowledge Mick gained when a member at the Warren to win 3 and 2. Doug Goodall and Brian Skittrall won their match 4 and 2 with Brian setting the pace by chipping in for a birdie on the first hole. The rest of the team will hope to do better when the return match is played next week!On Thursday, the Seniors were back on familiar, sloping home territory when they played a return match against Teign Valley. Although the Teign Valley course is similar to Sidmouth in some ways, the slopes and burrows proved too much of a challenge for most of the visitors and Sidmouth recorded a 5-1 win.
