A terrific all round performance gave Sidmouth CC under 15s a well-deserved victory in the ECB U15s Devon Cup final at Bicton on Monday.

The team had qualified after a convincing win against Filleigh in the semi-finals at Bicton on Friday.

Batting first, on another good wicket, Dan Powell and Anthony Dibble both scored unbeaten half centuries to lay the platform for a convincing total of 153 - losing only two wickets in the process. Declan Lines made a quick and aggressive 22 as Sidmouth looked to push on at the end.

Cornwood only bowled three wides in the innings - contributing fully to the general high standard of play.

Taking to the field, Sidmouth turned in their best bowling and fielding performance of the season. George House (2-15) and Isaac Thomas bowled good lines at the start, but good early batting from Cornwood threatened to make it a close contest. Turn to page 50.

However, as the pressure grew the errors were forced from the batsmen, and sharp catching from Lines and an excellent caught and bowled chance taken by House saw the balance tip towards the home side.

Lee Clayden (2-13) and Callum Bray (4-18) came on and cleaned up the Cornwood tail very efficiently. Lines and Joe Griffiths picked up a wicket each. Cornwood were all out for 84 in the 18th over.

The lads can be proud of the way they played. Bearing in mind we were without three county players tonight, it is clear the strength in depth is impressive.

After proudly lifting the cup Sidmouth learned that they will host the first round of the regional play-offs against the Cornish champions.
