Sidmouth star Andrew Rugg-Gunn has won the British National Racketball Championship, held in Birmingham on July 16/17, in the Over 80s category.

Andrew moved to Racketball from Squash, where he played internationally for Scotland for 20 years, having been national champion five times.

It proved to be an outstanding championship for Devon players in Birmingham, as our competitors came home with five winners, including Mike Harris of Exeter Golf & Country Club, who retained his British Open title.

Following the amazing triumph, Andrew expressed his huge gratitude to Sidmouth Leisure Centre for facilities and to Mike Harris for the coaching – they clearly make a winning team.

Racketball is the UK’s fastest growing sport! It is played on any regular squash court and is similar to squash. In racketball, a larger ball, which does not need warming up like in squash, and a shorter racket are used.
