The Charles Stanley Monday Stableford was won this week by Simon Knowles, writes John Barnard.

It was not a large entry as the weather warnings were dire for the afternoon although the really bad weather came in later than expected.

Simon started quite slowly and the front nine wasn’t great but a much improved back nine, including two birdies on 13 and 17 saw him home.

Mark Thomas was unfortunate. Playing an early round with the club captain to avoid the worst of the weather, his score on one hole was incorrectly recorded and neither picked it up on returning to the clubhouse so his 37 points was disqualified which would have seen him in second place. He is looking forward to returning the favour to the captain soon!

Taking advantage was Doug Goodall who scored 36. A poor front nine was quickly corrected by some excellent scoring over the back nine with six pars and a birdie on 13.Third was James Spiller who achieved the remarkable feat of recording two’s on the par three holes, four, five and six.

James scored 36 points but two double bogies cost him a victory.

John Jones leads the birdie count with 28, a remarkable 11 ahead of Jonathan Lee and also leads the eclectic with 59.
