Sidmouth Cricket Club junior section clicks into gear again this weekend with the first of what will be many matches during the 2014 season.

Before that opening game on Sunday there’s the first of the coaching sessions for the numerous colts that the club is proud to have on their books.

The girls start proceedings with their coaching running from 4.45pm to 5.54pm.

The boys start at 6pm and they are at work through until 7.30pm.

Once again this year the popular clubhouse will be open during the coaching sessions for parents and guardians to relax and enjoy a drink!

The club is very grateful to St John’s School, Sidmouth for the support they have given towards the purchase of the junior shirts this season.

Last but not least, the club is keen to stress that in terms of the junior cricket in 2014 there’s plenty of action going to be available to players of all standards.

There’s also another opportunity for those who missed last Friday’s registration night to come get along and sing on the dotted line for another campaign. The start time for anyone wishing to register is 6pm.

This year the club is fielding an Under-10 soft ball team together with teams at Under-11, 12, 13 and 15.

The successful girls coaching sessions return for another year. In cricket girls can play alongside the boys and be two years older. The official line is that girls can play ‘two years down’, so there’s opportunity for all to engage in competitive cricket. The club also run girls’ matches.

The first of those girls’ matches takes place on Sunday (10.15am) when the club’s Under-13 girls entertain Paignton in a Lady Taverner’s competition match.

Spectators are always made very welcome at Fortfield so if you are at a loss of what to do on Sunday morning you could do a lot worse than wonder down to the cricket club and take in the action.
