Sidmouth continue to top the table in Division one of the Exeter Over-60 following a commendable win against Madeira A, writes Ron Cook.

Having dropped a five on the penultimate end Bob Seldons team fought back to pick up three on the last to reduce their deficit to four shots.

Meanwhile, Ron Cook, Bob Seldon and David Hughes edged out Madeira in the tightest of games. At 15 ends, with the contest level at 8-all, Sidmouth picked up eight shots to give the team match points.

The B squad got back to winning ways with seven points from their match against Tiverton A whilst the C team were away at Feniton and found the opposition too strong for them on the day, losing on both rinks.

In this continued glorious weather the club’s friendly matches proved extremely enjoyable and extremely noisy, especially on the captain’s rink!

First up were Boscombe Cliff from Bournemouth with eight mixed rinks.

In spite of winning on five of the eight rinks, Sidmouth managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, losing 154-133.

The best rink was the one of Harry Carpenter, Rita Daw, Derek Mountford and skip Bob Daniels, who won 21-10.

Last Sunday South Dorset BA brought four mixed rinks and, on this occasion, Sidmouth scored 78 shots with 61 in reply. The best rink was; Ken Day, Janet Thomson, Jason Quinn and skip Eileen Hewett with a 23-10 victory.

Next up were Watford and District for the second year running. Sidmouth had four winning rinks to score 125-99. The top rink, by a substantial margin of 19 shots, comprised of Ann Elwood, Alex Bent, Phil Nobbs and skip Mike Borst.
