All teams in Division One of the Honiton Netball League banked at least a point in the latest round of matches, writes Steph Upson.
With some fine defending from Amy Colwill, TNC Otters beat High Tide 30-23, this despite the hard work and skilful shooting from Sarah Allen of High Tide.
There was more fine play and skilful shooting seen from Helen Terry of Sidmouth Toucans when playing against HNC 3Ts.
The game was closely contested with 3Ts’ Jenny Robinson working tirelessly as centre, but in the final quarter Toucans widened the goal difference to take the lead and win 39-27.
In Division Two there was a top-of-the-table clash with the sides sitting first and second - Beer Blazers and Sidmouth Eagles – meeting for an eagerly-awaited match.
Nerves got in the way for the Blazers in the first quarter, resulting in unusual mistakes and allowing Eagles to take an early lead.
Although the Blazers managed to play more confidently and only score one less goal than the Eagles in their remaining quarters, the damage of losing the first quarter was done and the game ended 35-25 to Eagles.
Gemma Langham’s work as goal attack saw her pick up the player of the match accolade once again for the Blazers, while Molly Parry’s presence and mid-court pressure was instrumental to Eagles’ win, resulting in her scooping the award on behalf of her team.
Two newer teams faced each other with a meeting between Cranbrook Arrows and Tornados.
Arrows took an early lead and dominated the first three quarters; however, in the final quarter, Tornados had a new lease of life and managed to net more goals in this final quarter than they had in the previous three quarters combined!
Unfortunately, it was a little too late and the game ended with a win for Cranbrook: 16-9. Once again this week, a shooter picked up the player of the match award – this time Bobbi Richards (goal attack) for Cranbrook. Richards’ opponent, Charlotte Glover, was awarded POTM for her excellent defensive display.
Pixies picked up three points for a win against Jurassics. Despite some good attacking and shooting from Lyn Martin for Jurassics, it wasn’t enough to contend with the regular scoring from the Pixies. They won 24-11 and centre Georgie Selley was highlighted as Pixies’ POTM.
