A busy weekend of golf at Sidmouth began on Friday with the all day stableford competition, writes Hugh Dorliac.

Many golfers decided that 40mph winds were simply too much and so stayed at home, but those plucky few to brave the weather saw their scores ravaged by the head on wind!

In first, with a hard won 30 points and the only two of the day was David Pepperell, with Mark Thomas, second, and Steve Crabb in third place. Scores are withheld to avoid embarrassment!

The much rearranged Easterbrook Eaton monthly Medal was finally played on Saturday and the weather again played its part.

The rain caused some greens to become unplayable and play was suspended after an hour and a half.

Eventually play was restarted, but some players who had trudged in from the far side of the course decided that discretion was the better part of valour and decided not to make that walk back!

However, the medal was completed by most and the results were – in Division One, Steve Crabb was back to claim the honours with a reportable and respectable one over par 67. Second place went to another hardy soul, Mark Thomas with 68 and Terry Jones took third spot.

The Division Two winner was Chris Roberts with 68, followed by Trevor Kerridge on 69 and Wilf Hudson on 73.

Ken Mylne wins the medal for Division Three with a humble, but winning score of 74 beating Andy Truscott and Allan Malcolm, who each recorded 76.

The format for the winter Sunday League game last week was a three-ball medal with his week was a three ball medal with two scores to count.

Andy Pryke, Graham Davies and Kym White settled in quickly and recorded an excellent eight under par score of 124, three points better than their nearest rivals, Harrison and Terry Jones with Lee Barber on 127.

In third were, Mark Thomas - here again!, Jonathan Lee - don’t know how he made it after the previous night’s club dinner dance! - and part time golfer these days, Kevin Howe, on 128.

The Monday Stableford competition enjoyed the best weather of the weekend and David Pepperell finished his with a win on 39 points and a new handicap of six. In second place was Mike Shepherd on 37 and Steve Crabb in third was on 36.

Well done, to all golfers who turned out to support the competitions, come rain or shine.
