Sidmouth were worthy winners when they met Madeira on the first Wednesday of the month, writes Sue Mison.

Always a most enjoyable fixture but equally played with a competitive edge, it was Sidmouth who emerged with a 58-39 victory.

The most successful Sidmouth rink was that of Brian Barber, Peter Mison and Bob Seldon who secured a 21-13 win.

No doubt Madeira will be seeking to reverse the outcome of the match when the pair lock horns again in Exmouth in November!

Sidmouth Ladies entertained Axminster and beat their East Devon neighbors 65-41 with the best performing rink being that of Wendy Limpus, Christa Turner, Sylvia Cook and Dreda Taylor who landed a 26-13 win.

The first mixed game of the new season was played against Chardstock last Saturday and it was Sidmouth who emerged victorious to the tune of a 76-44 score line. The best performing rink was that of Trevor Wells, Sylvia Cook, Christa Turner and Brian Smith who won 27-13.

The Ladies played against Exonia in the preliminary round of the Mason Trophy with one match at hoe and one away. The home line-up, a new team Marian Watson, Zena Johnson, Beryl Sparkes and Chris Hamer gave us a real nail biter only losing by one shot on the last end! The away team of Wendy Limpus, Paddy Wrench, Sheila Burnand and Sheila Lewis also put up a good fight but Exonia managed to pull away over the last few ends.

Sidmouth entertained Torbay for what proved to be a most pleasant afternoon that ended in a 65-47 win for the visitors. Sidmouth won on two of the rinks, the best being Ray Tallent, Doreen Pound, Mary Price and Brian Smith (20-14). We have a return match at the end of the month where we hope to take our revenge.

The ladies entertained Madeira earlier this week and were soundly beaten 80-41! The best rink for Sidmouth was Jean Brimson, Zena Johnson, Paddy Wrench and Phil Nobbs who drew 21-21. We shall look forward to reversing the score when we visit Madeira later in the season.
