The Parker Trophy match with Woodbury Park was played on a wet and blustery day at East Devon golf course, writes George Carr.
This match proved a gateway to the quarter finals for the Sidmouth team in this prestigious county-wide competition.
John Jones and Lewis Perry paved the way against a strong Woodbury side, after a nip and tuck game they found themselves two down with two to play on the 17th tee, but bravely won the last two holes to square the match and, holding their nerves well, were victors on the first extra hole to take the first vital point.
In the second match, former county captain Neil Holland and Sidmouth club manager Jonathan Lee produced some very solid foursomes golf (striking alternate shots) to give Sidmouth a winning two match margin.
Duncan Taylor and Martin White bringing up the rear, were one up after the 17th, but politely offered their opponents a half as the match was already decided and, also, they had been informed that Sidmouth team manager Stuart Coles was buying the beer!
Fingle Glen’s finest golfers await them in the quarter finals.
