Sidmouth Tennis club was again a hive activity in its junior section last week, writes Lesley Cranston.

After the previous weekend’s success of the boys’ Road to Wimbledon event it was over to the girls (16 and under) for their division of the Aegon Team Tennis, Devon, competition.

Sidmouth took on Ivybridge in the format that sees teams compete on a county basis in leagues appropriate to their player standard thereby providing regular competition throughout the early part of the summer for players of all ages from eight and under right through to the open age group.

Even though their opponents were outright winners, Sidmouth’s team of Molly Wiltshire, Georgia Hanson, Nicole Thackery and Katie Wilshire acquitted themselves really well, fighting hard in some very closely contested matches.

The girls produced excellent tennis; exciting viewing for spectators with every indication that they will build momentum during the season as they continue to represent their club.
