Sidmouth U18 Girls produced a hugely spirited display before eventually going down to a 17-10 defeat at Crediton in the National Cup

The Sidmouth girls hit Crediton with every tool at their disposal, choice of kicking, support on and off the ball, speed. The girls played the phases mixing up the pods and backs plays, kicking and switching the running lines requiring heroic fitness and technical accuracy.

Credit goes to Crediton, however, who managed to prevent the Sidmouth side from scoring several times and their ability on the counter-attack put remarkable pressure on our defensive lines.

Crediton were first to score with no conversion 5-0 but Sidmouth fought hard and levelled up the score with no conversion 5-5. Crediton came back and scored once more and converted making it 12-5.

Just before half time an opportune penalty came Sidmouth’s way, decision was to go for the posts, at quite a distance and angle Minty May kicked strongly to narrowly miss going over with a direct hit to one of the posts.

Sidmouth started the second half strong and were able to score first to bring the score to within a penalty kick 12-10. Sidmouth threw everything at their hosts in search of a decisve score but were instead hit on the break, as Creddy sealed their progress.

It was an amazing team effort in the end that helped Rosie Tidball our 15 to score the two tries. Rosie applied her trade and put in a few amazing tackles that thwarted breakthrough try scoring efforts from Crediton.

Team captain and our 8, Cleo Turley led the team brilliant and awarded players of the match, for their awesome contributions, to Amelia Brown at second row and Maddy Robinson.
