We are now approaching the end of the season and the last unbeaten run at Sidmouth Golf Club came to an end on Saturday when Colin Macklin’s B Team lost their first fixture of the season, at Wrangaton Golf Club, writes John Barnard.

This was a new fixture for the B team and was in some doubt when Wrangaton was put up for sale earlier in the year, but a new owner was been found and the fruits of the investment already made, can be seen at the club. It is great to see a local businessman confident enough to make a substantial investment in golf in these uncertain times and we wish Wrangaton the best of luck for the future.

As this was the first time the match had been played, it was a first visit for a number of the B team players and this may partly explain a slightly disappointing result. It started badly with the steady pairing of Captain Colin and Bob Welsman losing two-and-one. Trevor Kerridge and Jeremy Holden managed a half and in the last match, Pete Northcott and Mike Dommett managed a two-and-one win, but overall, the match was lost convincingly, four-and-a-half to one-and-a-half.

However, a great time was had by all and we hope this becomes a long standing fixture in the future.
