Having played at East Dorset Croquet Club the previous week in a Level Play Golf Croquet match (and lost), Sidmouth Croquet Club sent a team of six players to East Dorset, to play in the South West Federation Golf Croquet Handicap League.
As usual with all these matches 20 games are played – four doubles and 16 singles.
After some tense moments, under rather wet and damp conditions, the morning ended with Sidmouth winning three of the four doubles, losing three of the four singles and having two games drawn. The score at lunchtime being four-all.
There remained 12 singles to be played after lunch and, under brightening weather conditions, Sidmouth excelled - winning eight of the 12 games.
Mention must be made of the creditable performance of the ‘new boys’, playing their first match in the team – Paul Bradley with three wins and John Maynard with two wins and a draw.
