Sidmouth III moved to within five points of the summit of the 2nd XI B Division table following an empathic eight wicket win over visiting Braunton II.

Lee Clayden proved to be the star of the show with a five wicket haul and there were three wickets also for Bruce Robson as the North Devon side were bowled out for just 109.

Clayden finished with impressive figures of 5-21 whilst the Robson return was 3-23.

That made it eight wickets in two outings for Robson who had bagged himself a fivefer in the previous weekends success at Thorverton II.

Isaac Thomas then hit an unbeaten 59 to lead Sidmouth III to a seventh success of the league season.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the team entertain Alphington II at Newton Poppleford.

This weekend marks the completion of two-thirds of then league season and so there will be just six matches to play when tomorrow’s action is complete.

Sidmouth head into the meeting with the Alphas trailing second placed Exeter III by four points with leaders Abbotskerswell II a further two points better off than the County ground outfit.

Tomorrow the Abbots are at Tavistock II whilst Exeter are at Thorverton II.

The Sidmouth III run-in sees them complete July’s programme with a trip to Abbotskerswell next weekend. In August they begin with Brixham at home before entertaining Tavistock. They then visit Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough before ending their home season on August 23 against Cornwood and wrapping up the campaign on August 30 at Exeter III.
