Sidmouth III suffered their first home league defeat of the season when they went down by 12 runs to Exeter II.

Skipper Graham Munday won the toss and invited the visitors to bat and the Exeter innings was hit by a couple of spells of rain that ultimately reduced the contest to one of 36 overs per side.

Unfortunately for the hosts, no fewer than 41 of the Exeter total came from extra’s!

Toby Seldon’s single wicket was scant reward for a tidy spell which helped the home side rein the visitors in from a flying start.

The brake was further applied by Bruce Robson, who took 2-29, one of his victims to a stunning one-handed catch by Rob Fowler at fly slip. However, the bowling honours on the day went to young Jordan Fowler who claimed two wickets for 19 runs.

The Sidmouth reply quickly slid into trouble as Joe Griffiths left a straight ball, Munday dragged one on to his stumps and the quick departures of Rob Fowler and Alex Raistrick left Sidmouth four wickets down with just 40 runs on the board.

A stand of 60 between Isaac Thomas and Thomas Moore redressed the balance, but Thomas fell when on 79 and his departure was followed by further wickets.

Last pair Jordan Fowler and John Goodwin got the score past 150 to give Sidmouth seven points from the defeat – one more than many other sides in the division who received six for rained-off games.
