Having played local leagues, county and internal competitions and hosted in excess of 25 touring sides from all over the UK, Sidmouth Bowling Club’s very busy outdoor season has drawn to a close, writes Sandra Wheeler.

One of the last highly contested games of the outdoor season was the annual ladies’ versus gentlemen match which was certainly a close encounter, finally won overall by the gents. However, one ladies’ rink warranting a special mention was the one of Mary Smith, Margaret King, Rachel Tallent and skip Wendy Limpus who landed a superb 33-5 success against Ralph Brooks, Peter Bloomfield, Alan Davies and skip Norman Brimson. Well done, ladies!

Without a breather, the indoor season has already kicked off with Opening Drives for both men and ladies! The aim of the indoor game to start with is to keep the bowls out of the ditch as the adjustment between the outdoor and indoor season is made.

In the ladies sessions the top rink was Jean Brimson, Chris Radburn, Pat Poole and skip Carol Smith, with an 18-5 victory.

The first match is again the hotly contested annual meeting between the gentlemen and the ladies. Is it time for the ladies to shine? Watch this space! Happy bowling to all Sidmouth bowlers for the coming indoor season which I hope will prove a very enjoyable one.
