On Saturday, it was the turn for the members to invite friends or past foes in club matches for the Invitation Open, writes John Barnard.

Clearly, not many men have friends, as the turnout was extremely disappointing on what was a beautiful day!

Leading the way for the third in year in succession was Bob Welsman and Spencer Macklin, a past member and son of B team Captain, Colin Macklin. They scored a remarkable 46 points, often enough to win an internal club competition.

In second place was Steve Channing (showing up regularly in the team prizes this year) who played with Carl Sheehan, another recent past member of the club. They though their 43 points ought to have been enough for a win, but it wasn’t to be.

In third place was chair of competitions Lester Willmington, playing with Laurie Quinn who was also a member at the club until April. They were going well, but a poor last few holes dented their score.
