The 25th round of the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday night league was won Simon Knowles who scored 39 points, writes John Barnard.

Simon is a big hitter and when his round goes well, he can be very dangerous but his ball can find some interesting places.

On Friday, he played an unusually steady round with ten birdies and nothing worse than a bogie and this moves him to his lowest ever handicap, 9.9 exact. Well done, Simon!

In second place was Neil Faulkner playing his penultimate round for a while. Continuing his recent excellent form, he signed off his last qualifier with 37 points, including birdying nine and thirteen. Bogies on the last two holes prevented a possibly winning round. In third place was Tom Hodge with 36 points. Off a handicap of 19, he birdied two difficult holes, nine and eleven, but suffered three no scores which messed up his card

There was no change in the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday night challenge and Mark Thomas cannot now be beaten. A massive 22 points in the lead with two rounds to go, he would have been even further ahead if he had checked his card as he scored 37 points and was looking good for second place until an error was spotted. In second place, Lee Wenham is nine points ahead of Craig Melluish.
