The Sidmouth Jewellers Friday stableford was won this week by Harrison Jones, writes John Barnard.

His handicap has been tumbling since the start of the season, no doubt due to the many hours he spends playing! It was a glorious Bank Holiday weekend and the weather on Friday was perfect for golf, and the Red Arrows who were expected to be zooming over the club house in the early evening.

The first, second and eighteenth holes were shut between 5.30pm and 7pm so mid afternoon starters had to choose where best to start from.

Harrison had an unusually steady round, only one double bogie and one birdie but a succession of pars meant he went round with a score of 39 points. There were then two players on 38 points but Geoff Lory beat Jonathan lee on countback. Geoff will have enjoyed his two on the difficult fourteenth but the finished 6, 6, for two double bogies that cost him a win. Jonathan was his usual steady self except he bogied the eighteenth, often a birdie hole or better for the longer hitters.

In the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Night table, Graham Burgess now leads by 21points with an (unassailable?) score of 100. Graham Davies is second on 79 points with Kevin Legg a further fourteen points back on 65.
