The sixth Sidmouth Jewellers Friday stableford was won by Chris Ward, writes John Barnard.

For a relatively high handicapper, he had a very consistent round, six pars and only two double bogies to give him an excellent 41 points and a clear win by three shots. In second place was Aston Puckey with 38 points. One of the club’s newer and younger members, he has definitely got ‘the golfing bug’ and will get down to a single figure handicap soon undoubtedly. He had a great start, birdying the first but a no score on the third and a few dropped shots prevented a handicap reduction this time. In third place was Club Manager, Jonathan Lee with a very mixed bag of scores. Off his low handicap of four, he had three double bogies, three birdies and an eagle to give him 37 points. A birdie on the eighteenth ensured he had the last place in the prizes.

There were only five two’s on the day, three in Division One and two in Division Two.

No significant changes in the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Night league. David Burgess still leads, with 34 points but Aston’s win has catapulted him into second place on 27 points, jointly with Mike Knight
