The Sidmouth Jewellers Friday night league was blighted by a poor forecast this week, writes John Barnard.

Days before, we were scanning the differing weather websites, hoping for one to say the weather was going to be OK.

In the end, the weather was not as bad as expected, but a number of players were put off so it was a relatively low entry.

Remarkably, the top five players all recorded the same score, 36 points. Paul Huxtable took the honours because of his better back nine.

Playing off a handicap of 18, he managed fifteen points on the way out, but after the turn, a birdie for four points on the 10th got him going and with four more pars, a back nine of 21 points was just enough to take the victory.

In second place was a regular Friday player, Graham Davies. Again, not a great front nine, but the back nine started well and a birdie on the last made all the difference.

Lewis White was in third place and is getting used to playing off scratch and had a good start with seven straight pars.

Then, three birdies on the ninth, 10th and 16th were unfortunately cancelled out by three bogies.

Paul Renken and Neil Holland also scored 36 points but, unfortunately, were out of the prizes.

In the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday night league table, Kevin Legg retains a 24-point lead over Mark Thomas in second, with Steve Crabb and Craig Melluish a further eight points back.
