Sidmouth Saturday U12s 2, Exwick 1

Saturday saw the eagerly awaited clash of the two unbeaten sides in the league and what a cracking match it was, writes Paul Newbery.

Sidmouth started brightly with neat football, but Exwick put pressure on the Sid defence and Jamie Newbery, Dylan King, Jonny Surtees held firm. Tyler Welman picked up most of the loose balls and fed Freddie King who was causing all sorts of problems. When he met a Welman corner, he powered his header into the net, only to have it disallowed. Exwick hit back and a tremendous shot cannoned off the bar. Five minutes before half time Freddie King fired in to give the Sidmouth the lead. Sidmouth had 12 players on the field at the time, but the referee allowed the goal.

Half time arrived with plenty of protest and it was mutually agreed for Sidmouth to allow Exwick to walk a goal in and, at all square, the game was on with both teams attacking and both defences holding firm. With 15 minutes left, King went on another run which saw him beat three players and score. It was a deserved win thanks to a great team performance and Sidmouth U12s are now the only unbeaten team so far in league.
