Sidmouth ladies bowl to fine victory over Bovey Tracey

After the previous week had been one of the busiest in recent times, last week was a much quieter for Sidmouth bowlers, writes Carol Smith.
There was a friendly fixture at home to Bovey Tracey. What turned out to be a most enjoyable game saw honours even in terms of the three rinks with both teams successful on one and the other ending all square.
In terms of the overall match honours, that went the way of Sidmouth with a 47-43 score line.
The top home rink was the one of Lorna Lever, Sheila Palmer and skip Susie Bonnell, who chalked up a good win of 18 shots to 10.
There should have been a friendly with Axminster ladies, but unfortunately this was cancelled by Axminster and has been rearranged for later in the season.
There was action for our club champion, Jill Bishop, who played in the second round of the national ‘Champion of Champions’ competition.
Jill was tasked with taking on Sue Harriott from Madeura in a match played at Sidmouth.
It had always been anticipated that the contest would be a close one – and so it was!
With 21 shots required to be a winner, a nip-and-tuck match saw Sue leading 18-17, but Jill was holding shot with her last wood.
However, Sue took the jack back for the three shots she needed to land victory – that’s bowls!
