As the summer season outdoors picks up speed, Sidmouth Bowling Club ladies had a very busy weekend playing in major competitions, writes Susie Bonnell.
They travelled to Madeira Bowling Club in Exmouth to play in the Preliminary round of the Women’s Top Club competition - a national competition where teams vie for the coveted Trophy in a series of knock-out rounds.
Sidmouth we’re delighted to go through to the next round, by winning two of the four disciplines gaining equal points with Madeira, leaving it to a count back of shots to decide the winner in favour of Sidmouth by a very close margin. The following day Sidmouth ladies were drawn to play against Seaton on Seaton’s home greens in the Grace Matthew competition - unfortunately on this occasion, Sidmouth were knocked out by Seaton, who won four of the five disciplines.
So, Sidmouth ladies will now concentrate all their efforts on the next round of the Top Club, playing at Honiton on a date to be arranged.
