The Ladies’ B team were in Exmouth, playing on grass courts for the first time, writes Lesley Cranston.
Andrea Cushing and Marlene Maynard teamed up and battled hard, with most games going to deuce but struggled to convert the winning points resulting in a 6-2 6-3 loss.
Jo Neumegen and Sally Lockhart were consistent 6-2 6-2 in both but, unfortunately, not in their favour. They lost their first match against a more experienced team but in their second match, they were unlucky not to gain more games after playing very well with some terrific rallies. Cushing and Maynard got their focus back in the second rubber, having taken the first set 6-4, they succumbed 6-1 in the second but rallied again to take the tie-break 10-5. The overall score was 7-2 to Exmouth.
