On Wednesday, Sidmouth ladies contested for the Millennium Plate, writes Maria Clapp.

This is an annual competition against the men’s seniors and is always an enjoyable event which is well supported.

The ladies’ captain, Sheila Faulkner, opened the competition with her partner Gill Paddon, our vice captain.

They played against Tony Stoyle, the seniors’ captain, and Chris Grubb. They got the ladies off to a flying start by winning their match, two up.

After the match everybody gathered in the clubhouse, watching with anticipation as the results came in and were posted on the results board. After the first four matches, all was square! The final result was a great win for the ladies with them sealing an 8-5 success.

The past three years were won by the seniors, so the ladies were very happy to have the Millennium Plate back in their hands once again.

There was a nearest the pin for the ladies on the fourth and for the men on the 11th. Paddy Hutchings won the ladies’ prize and Colin Paddon the men’s.

The weather was kind to us once again and the temperature was very pleasant. Great views were appreciated by us all.
