Sidmouth ladies celebrated the start of their golfing season with their Spring Meeting, writes Andrea Milton.

Unfortunately, the weather didn’t realise that it was supposed to be spring and the day started with persistent rain!

To avoid everyone getting too wet the competition was shortened to nine holes on the course and an indoor putting competition was added.

The golf was played as a three person Texas Scramble which is one of the most fun games to play.

In third place was the team of Penny Lyne, Jill Jeffrey and Viv Cotter.

Second was Marie Timms, Linda Reynolds and Philippa White.

The winning team was the one of Anne Blackler, Sue Billinghurst and Mandy Furniss, who were later presented with their prizes of delicious food hampers by ladies’ captain Maria Clapp.

Angela Coles got a two and Liz Chance won a bottle of champagne in the putting competition.

Everyone had tea afterwards and a raffle was held to raise money for the captains’ charity CLIC Sargent which helps families deal with cancer in childhood.
