Sidmouth ladies’ Texas Scramble success
PUBLISHED: 08:30 18 May 2018
On Wednesday, Sidmouth ladies held a mixed Texas Scramble, writes Maria Clapp.
Sixteen teams, each of four players, entered the competition – making it an excellent turnout of 64 players being involved.
This is always an enjoyable and social event, where it enables members to mix with others in the club. A majority of the teams consisted of two males and two females. A few ladies were in teams with three men! Each team totalled their collective four handicaps and then deducted 10 per cent of the total at the end of the round.
The results were all quite close and the winning team was the one of Pat McCormack, Keith James, Anne Blackler and Janet Humberstone.
This represents an excellent result, especially as Janet is the ladies’ most senior member! Their winning score was 53.6. Second place went to Alan Billinghurst, Bob Welsman, Andrea Milton and Annie Carter with 55.2 and third place went to the team of John Townsend, Ray Gunston, Penny Lyne and Sue Billinghurst with 55.6.
Most of the players were able to stay for the prizegiving in the clubhouse, later that day. Colin Macklin, the captain, gave an introduction, then passed over to the ladies’ captain, Sheila Faulkner, to present the prizes of John Lewis/Waitrose vouchers.
These are always appreciated as the winners can put the money towards a prize of their choice. Or give them to their wives for the weekly shop!, in the case of the men!
Penny Lyne the ladies’ President’s Team captain, presented a gift to Neil Faulkner from The Upper Crust Bakery in Sidmouth.
Thanks were given for his generosity in sponsoring the ladies’ President and Sheelah Creasy teams for the coming season – a very generous gesture indeed!
