Archant

Sidmouth lady captain Sheila Faulkner held her Lady Captain’s Day and it was enjoyed by another excellent turnout of members, writes Maria Clapp.

A total of 36 ladies entered the competition which was contested by teams of three.

A waltz competition was the format for the day. This format is where you score one of the three players scores on the first hole, two scores to count on the second and three scores to count on the third. The fourth is then back to one and so on.

The winning team on the day was Margaret Thompson, Ros Eaton and Sally Fox with 81 points. It was mighty close for the minor places with countback over the last six holes being used to determine second and third after both teams finished with 80 points.

After countback, second place went to Angela Coles, Jacqui Jones and Gerry Whitrow and finishing third were Anne Blackler, Alison Godwin and Jill Jeffrey.

Sheila presented lovely bags to the prize winners. There were also prizes for nearest the pins on four of the holes. On the second the winner was Sally Fox, seventh Angela Coles, tenth Ros Eaton and the thirteenth was Alison Godwin. It is great to see some of our newer ladies names being listed in the prize winners. Well done, ladies.

There was also a prize for the best score on the par threes. This was won by Angela Coles team, they totalled 39 points for this prize. Bottles of wine were presented to the winners for this and nearest the pins.

Sheila held a hospitality tent by the 12th green. This was very welcome on a hot day! Pimms was served. Also pasties and sausage rolls from The Upper Crust Bakery, fruit and biscuits.

A great day was had by all and the vice captain Gill Paddon presented Sheila with a bouquet of flowers from the ladies with thanks for a lovely day.
