On Monday, May 15, a bright sunny day, Sidmouth’s Emerton Court team travelled to Teign Valley for the second leg, having won comfortably at home four-and-a-half to a half and only needing to win one match to secure their passage through to the next round, writes Hugh Dorliac.
Opening pair Graham Rogers and Lester Willmington, in a match that saw the lead swing back and forth, managed to halve their match as did second pair David Fish and Colin Macklin thus taking Sidmouth through.
Matches three and four were well won by Teign Valley, but Sidmouth’s final pairing of Ray Gunston and Pat McCormack fought hard to secure a win, holing out on the last hole. Teign Valley won three matches to two on the day, but the overall result was a six-and-a-half to three-and-a-half win for Sidmouth. They will play Boringdon Park near Plymouth in the next round.
