Sidmouth advanced to the fourth round of the Palairet Trophy (Devon Cup) with a three-and-a-half to one-and-a-half victory over Ilfracombe last Sunday and are now just one match from Finals Day, writes Charlie Jarvis.

Damion Gee and Jonathan Lee got the team off to the perfect start with a comfortable four-and-three win despite Gee not having hit a ball since the last round a month ago!

However, things started to look worrying when Neil Holland and Harry Munk were defeated by the oldest man ever to play in the competition, 78-year-old Wilfred Munro, and his partner, two-and-one.

Lewis Perry and Dudley Taylor got a fortunate half which left the match in the balance before both John Jones and Chris Lewis and James Spiller and Mark Thomas eased Sidmouth home with comfortable three-and-two wins.

This just left Stuart George Coles to take his late call up as a reserve literally and turn up just as the match had finished!

Sidmouth will now play Torquay in the fourth round on Sunday, July 7.
