Sidmouth once again played host to the Plymouth Civil Service side last week, writes Ron Cook.
The Civil Servants play a total of 28 matches in the summer and their campaign always begins with the visit to Sidmouth.
This year the home side won on five of the six rinks to bag an overall victory at 123-105.
The best of the home rinks was the one of Ralph Brooks, Alex Bent, Peter Mison, Brian Smith who triumphed 26-10.
The following day Sidmouth played six mixed triples against Lyme Regis who edged the game by three shots! This despite Sidmouth having success on four of the six rinks. The best performing rink on the day for Sidmouth was that of Ken Bridgman, Ray Tallent and Chris Hamer.
Sadly the fixture against Budleigh was cancelled, not because of the weather, but owing to Budleigh having difficulty raising a team. Hopefully the match will be re-scheduled later in the season.
In County action were the Sidmouth A squad in the Exeter Over-60s League and they secured two points with a winning rink at Marina. The B and C squads were caught late in their respective matches, each losing on both rinks.
The club has entered the Tony Allcock National Double mixed rinks for the first time this year and they made a triumphant start!
Playing against close rivals Honiton at home last Saturday Sidmouth recorded an excellent 44-30 victory with a 29-11 success for the rink of Jean Brimson, Eileen Hewett, Mike Borst and Ron Cook.
Next up in the competition will be a meeting with either Topsham or Madeira.
