Sidmouth men defeat ladies in the annual end of outdoor season meeting

Sidmouth Bowls Club held their traditional close-of-season gentlemen-versus-ladies meeting, writes Susie BonnellThis is always a lovely game full of friendly rivalry and this year’s meeting was no exception as both men’s’ outdoor captain, John Greenaway, and the ladies’ outdoor captain, Valerie Newnham, willed their own teams on to victory.

Alas, this year, the men snatched the win. Despite what you might read elsewhere - and despite Valerie giving penalty points to the men for a variety of misdemeanours, including Ron Cook using bowls that are his Christmas 2014 present and shouldn’t even be unwrapped yet! - the ladies accepted defeat gracefully - although on two rinks, the Ladies scored up a win - what can I say? - other than – we was robbed!

We shall just have to wait for the 2015 summer season to seek suitable retribution.
