On Saturday morning Sidmouth men played their third match in this season’s Devon Interclub League this time against Torquay B, writes Ken Wheeler.
After starting our league campaign disappointingly with two defeats we bounced back magnificently to record an emphatic morale-boosting 119 shots to 52 win, probably one of the men’s teams’ biggest ever league victories.
We won on three rinks and drew the other and therefore bagged 13 (out of the 14) points on offer and moving us away from the bottom of the league table.
Leading the way at home was the rink of Wilf Radburn, Brian Barber, John Chew and skip Norman Brimson with a brilliant 34-4 win. In the action at Torquay, the rink of Andrew Lowe, Dutch Holland, Mark Stephens and skip Ken Wheeler also scored highly, winning 38-15, which included a hot shot.
This comparatively rare feat involves achieving the maximum score of eight on one end of a fours match. In other words getting all eight woods delivered nearer the jack than any of those delivered by the opposition.
