Last Wednesday Sidmouth ladies invited the men to play in a fun competition, writes Maria Clapp.
These events are always, thoroughly enjoyed by all of the participants. Some of the players even dressed up for the occasion – after all, it was Hallowe’en!
The format for the day was a step away Texas scramble. Teams of four were the order of the day, with two ladies and two gents in each team. Four players then take their drive. The best shot is chosen, and it is not always the one which has gone the furthest. Tactics are required for this event to get the best results!
Once the shot is chosen, the person who played the shot steps away and the other three players take their next shot from that position.
On reaching the next shot, the best one is chosen and this player then steps away and the previous player then returns to the shots. This continues until the green, when everybody then has a chance at putting.
The winning team was the one that comprised of club captain Colin Macklin, Geoff Lory, Yvonne Anning and Judy Ritz, who scored 52 points.
Second place, with 52.6 points, went to the team of Ray Gunstan, Steve Nunn, Anne Blackler and Penny Ashby and third were Tony Stoyle, Mike Davis, Ann Willoughby and Jane Renken with 52.8 points. A very close competition indeed.
Most of the players were able to stay for the prize giving at which the teams received vouchers to spend in the professionals shop. A great day was had by all. It is also a great way for members to meet other members of the club.
