Sidmouth’s men bowlers bagged a further two points in the Interclub League competition, writes David Fairclough.

The Interclub match against South Hams was played over four rinks, two at home, and two in Kingsbridge.

The home rink, skipped by Ron Cook, supported by Maurice Watson, Dave Lever, and Peter Mison, won by a shot margin of 23-18, thereby earning the two points. The other home rink also was closely fought, but eventually lost by a four shot margin.

Unfortunately the two away rinks, suffering from a testing early morning journey, and far from ideal playing conditions, went down on both rinks.

The week’s two mixed friendly fixtures were played against teams from Budleigh Salterton and Chudleigh.

Sidmouth won two of the three rinks against Budleigh, but lost the match by an aggregate shot score of 56-61. The best Sidmouth rink was skipped by Mike Reader, supported by Wilf Radburn, Chris Radburn, and Shirley Rose. Their shot score was 23-16.

The week ended on a high note with the visit of a mixed team from Chudleigh. Despite the late arrival of part of the Chudleigh team, due to road traffic delays, and the game therefore being restricted to sixteen ends, it was played in the usual friendly atmosphere for such fixtures.

The same atmosphere transferred to the bar after the game. For the record, Sidmouth won on two of the three rinks and by an aggregate shot score of 47-35. The best rink, by a margin of 24-5, included Karen Hollingdale, Steve Pearson, Chris Radburn and skip Ken Tolley.

In summary, Sidmouth bowlers can be well satisfied with the week’s outcome. League points won (though we would have preferred more!) and two enjoyable friendly matches, with five of the ten rinks won over the three games.
