The past fortnight has seen many hours of competitive netball completed by the green and black of Sidmouth Netball Club and the enthusiasm for this fantastic remains as strong as ever.
At the bottom of the age range, we fielded three U11 teams in a highly enjoyable round-robin tournament involving Sidmouth, Tiverton and AVNC - resulting in four wins, three draws and eight highly competitive close losses. The coaches of all teams involved were very impressed by the attitude of the girls in what was, for some, their first ever competitive match.
Following hotly on their heels were the U12, U14 and U16 teams who, despite coming up against strong opposition in the East Devon Junior Netball League, kept up their amazing team spirit, enjoying their netball and learning a great deal about the game.
The U16 Eagles were the best team on the day, winning their first game 26-0. However, roles were soon reversed against a much stronger TTNC opposition with a final score of 26-8 to them. The third game of the afternoon was much more competitive with the Eagles just being edged out at the final whistle 11-10.
For the U18 Eagles, who play in the Honiton Netball League, the season has been somewhat more productive. A very impressive five wins out of the five games played so far, with the latest game a highly competitive 27-23 win over HNC Honeyz with Maddie Nielson standing out as player of the match.
Off the court, Sidmouth Netball Club has enjoyed a very successful couple of days. The club are particularly keen to thank the wonderful shoppers at Sidmouth Co-op, who managed to raise a whopping £1466 over the past year.
Add this to the £300 raised over the past weekend in the sale of teas, coffees and cakes, and the financial ball is rolling for the development of outdoor floodlit courts, which are so desperately needed in the Sid Valley.
